Smooth finish with a happy painter & decorator. Everyone is happy! A skim coat goes over plasterboard or hard wall to give a smooth, seamless surface that is ready to decorate. It often means the old plaster doesn’t all have to come off, and the work is quick to turn round on site.

Exterior rendering
A new face for the whole house.
Scaffold up, windows and doors masked, render on. We do Monocouche coloured rendering, traditional sand & cement, and silicone coloured renders from K Rend and Weber. Our team of plasterers love using these products: silicone technology gives the render surface water repellency.

Render is the final finish on a building and the part everyone sees, so the walls underneath have to be right first. Painted walls and uneven blockwork give render a poor key, and we deal with that before the first coat goes on.

Before you paint
Seal new plaster with a mist coat.
Once the job is done and the plaster is thoroughly dry, please follow our painting procedure so the paint binds to the wall properly.
- Water down a non-vinyl emulsion for the first coat. It soaks into the new plaster and seals it.
- Don’t use neat emulsion: it dries too fast, can crack, and sits on top of the plaster.
- Skip vinyl paint and PVA as a sealer. Paint on top of either tends to peel and chip.

Plaster Professionals is Jamie’s firm, based in Warrington and working across Warrington & Cheshire with a small team of plasterers. We deliver bespoke plastering for builders and the general public alike, and our commitment to top-rate service and quality workmanship is the standard every job is held to.
Jamie has written about the trade, right down to which trowel does which job. His take on the very last pass of a wall:
